Founded in 1954, the McNay Art Museum is the first museum of modern art in Texas. At its core is the Mediterranean-style home of its donor, Marion Koogler McNay, her original bequest of European and American art, her 24-room residence, most of her fortune and the 23 acres surrounding the home. The grounds themselves are worth a visit with a Japanese Garden, fishpond and lush, broad lawns. Its focus is on 20th century American painting as well as 19th and 20th century European and American prints, theater arts, drawings and sculptures. Artists represented in the collection include Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso, O'Keefe and Jackson Pollack.
